“I kind of think of ads as like a last resort for us for a business model.”
Harvard fireside chat · in response to a question about advertising as a way to fund access to AI

OpenAI said more than 100,000 advertisers had run ChatGPT campaigns and expanded ads to 89 countries. In August, it had reported a $1 billion annualized ad-revenue run rate.
The “last resort” became a global business line.
Altman said he was not categorically against ads and would consider them to widen access; he did not promise never to run them. OpenAI says the ads are labeled, separate from answers and restricted to Free and Go plans. The revenue figure is an annualized run rate, not revenue actually earned over a year. This was OpenAI’s business decision, not Altman’s personal ad sales.
“We’re going to buy Bitcoin, never sell Bitcoin, we’re going to borrow money intelligently.”
Markets with Madison interview · describing MicroStrategy’s approach to investors
Strategy’s July 6 filing, page 2. The exact 2,225 figure is enlarged; the red outline on the authentic table excerpt is an editorial annotation.
The Reality · July 6, 2026
Strategy disclosed selling 1,363 bitcoin on June 29–30 and 2,225 more on July 1–5. It said the proceeds funded preferred-stock distributions and replenished its dollar reserve.
“Never sell” met a dividend bill.
Saylor was describing the company’s strategy, not promising what he personally would do with his own coins. The company—not Saylor personally—made these sales, and it still held 843,775 bitcoin on July 5. It had sold bitcoin before, in December 2022; these were not its first-ever sales.
“Production design complete and unveil end of year”
Musk on X · from a thread that also aimed to ship the car the following year, 2025
Electrek’s February 2024 report; editorial enlargement below the authentic excerpt. Its rendering differs slightly from the exact wording of Musk’s X post, linked below.
The Reality · October 15, 2026
Tesla unveiled a redesigned Roadster in October 2026. Musk said production would start in 2028—not an unveiling in 2024 or shipments in 2025.
The reveal arrived two years after the forecast. The cars have another two years to wait.
“Aiming” was a target, not a guarantee. Tesla demonstrated a vehicle in 2026 and is still taking reservations; the 2028 production date is a new forecast, not proof of deliveries. The Roadster was first shown in 2017, when Musk expected it to be available in 2020.
“this will likely be our most important contribution to the internet.”
Dorsey on X, introducing Block’s TBD Web5 project
Block’s Q3 2024 shareholder letter, page 22. Enlarged text and red outline added to point to the original passage.
The Reality · November 7, 2024
Block told shareholders it was “winding down TBD”, the unit behind Web5, to invest instead in bitcoin mining and its Bitkey wallet.
The “most important contribution” became an initiative to wind down.
Dorsey said “likely,” not guaranteed. This was a decision about Block’s Web5 initiative, not an end to all decentralized-web work or to Block’s other bitcoin products.
“And then I think we may be able to sell it externally by the end of next year. These are just guesses.”

Musk now expects Optimus deliveries to companies outside Tesla around the end of 2027. He says the robot’s AI, hardware and reliability still need work.
The robot has a production line. The delivery date got two more years.
His 2024 date was explicitly a guess, not a guaranteed launch. Tesla says it has started early production; the new date is also a forecast, not a completed delivery.
“You have control over how your information is shared.”
Washington Post op-ed
The same sentence, sixteen years later — on the New Mexico jury’s verdict form.
The Reality · October 21, 2026
A New Mexico judge ordered Meta to pay $25 billion after a jury found the company misled users about their data. The jury specifically found the 2010 user-control statement deceptive.
The control was in the promise. The jury found it wasn’t in users’ hands.
This is a judgment about years of earlier conduct, not a new data breach. Meta disputes the ruling and says it will appeal.
“In terms of political spending, I’m going to do a lot less in the future. I think I’ve done enough.”

New filings show he gave $158 million in September to a Senate Republican super PAC. He has spent roughly $366 million this midterm cycle.
We all think he’s done quite enough — but apparently Musk just couldn’t help himself.
And why would he keep his word? Since his last round of funding his president, he became the world’s first trillionaire. The money is inconsequential; the power is addictive.
